Benson Amps Deep Sea Diver Fuzz-Echo FX Pedal

The Benson Deep Sea Diver is a signature fuzz and echo pedal, designed in close collaboration with Jessica Dobson of Seattle’s Deep Sea Diver. Over the course of three years, Benson worked hand-in-hand with Jessica to distil her distinct sound into a single pedal that merges a finely tuned fuzz circuit with an expressive, analog-style echo section.

At the core of this unit is a silicon based, three-transistor fuzz, a wild crossbreed between a Tone Bender Mk1.5 and Mk2, tweaked to the edge of control. The bias and gate controls allow for deep tonal sculpting, from sharp treble booster tones and fat, creamy sustain to sputtery, gated fuzz textures that crackle and snap with vintage chaos. These controls interact with each other in responsive, unpredictable ways, creating a playground of fuzz profiles that respond beautifully to guitar volume and pickup changes.

The echo side of the pedal uses a modified PT2399 chip, dialled in to complement the fuzz tones perfectly. With controls for time, feedback, and level, you can go from subtle slapbacks to lush repeats and full-on self-oscillating mayhem. Hold the footswitch, and the echo cascades into endless feedback - a signature sound found throughout Deep Sea Diver’s records. It’s not just delay, it’s part of the atmosphere.

One of the most creative features of the Deep Sea Diver is its switchable signal path. You can flip the order of the fuzz and echo simply by powering up the pedal with the footswitch held down. A green LED means fuzz into echo. Orange means echo into fuzz, the configuration Jessica prefers for its dreamy, lo-fi wash and unconventional behaviour. Each path unlocks entirely different sonic landscapes.
