The Overdrive+ is an original circuit with a whole range of both familiar and unique tones, but one that hasn't been designed to reinvent the humble overdrive, but to take it into a new dimension while ripping your face off in the process!

Controls

The overdrive+ is an original circuit with a whole range of both familiar and unique tones - from low gain always-on tonal enhancer to ripping high gain lead machine. With a combination of JFETs, op-amps and a few diodes inside it really covers a lot of ground.

The op-amp is used for gain and buffering and is raised to around 30 volts so it never clips, even when another pedal is stacked in front. All clipping is crafted from the JFETs or the diodes.

In addition to standard VOL, TONE, and GAIN controls you'll find a bass cut switch for perfectly tightening things up and a clipping mode switch to swap between symmetric or asymmetric clipping styles (symmetric is smoother, asymmetric is more natural and textured).

The strangle/raw boost is where it gets really cool.Think of this as the+part of overdrive+. It’s a very colorfully voiced dirty boost that adds gain and a ton of 2nd harmonic distortion to the signal. STRANGLE uses a resonant filter for a subtle cocked wah thing and RAW removes this filter turning it into a full range boost.

Versatile OD with a distinct range of sounds

Very impressed. Straight out of the box I knew my sound would be in safe hands with this pedal. The build quality is impeccably cool - imagine a metallic grey finish and subtly rounded edges - somehow it looks and feels sexy…

The sound is equally classy - it does everything from smooth, rich and sustaining overdrive to raucous distortion and sparkly clean boost. It seems there’s a ton of boost gain available even when set clean, and like all of silktone’s products every control has a wide range that is useful in every position. There is nothing ordinary about any aspect of it - crispy chime through to fat round bass, and it cleans up beautifully with your guitar volume - one of those rare pedals that gives easy access to a wide range of great sounding drives just by rolling back a little. Stacks nicely with a clean boost in front too. The extra controls are a bonus - the low end switch has just the right amount of cut, while the dynamics switch goes from a superresponsive attack to smooth compression without losing any of the rich character of the drive. In the dynamic setting the sound is especially suited to chord riffs, as every note rings out clearly even when the gain is cranked a little. And there’s a boost with a switch that enables a thick, lower mids sound a little like a cocked wah but less extreme - more like a tele bridge pup with the tone rolled back - I believe that this is precisely what Charles was aiming for.

I’m seriously into this. I’ve tried a lot of high end overdrives over the past 5 years, and this one is a keeper. One of the very best all-round.
