What Do Fairfield Circuitry Say?

Represent the new millennia with this brand new take on our coveted Barbershop.

Have you ever sat in a barber's chair wishing your tone was as slick as your freshly shaved upper lip? With the Barbershop Overdrive on your pedalboard, you could keep your moustache and sound good doing it.

Less is more with this simple, original design. Handmade from JFETs matched to specs, this versatile pedal will treat your pickups with the respect they deserve. In return, they’ll thank you with some of them sweet tones.

Controls

SAG
The Sag control reduces the voltage to the amplifiers as you turn it counter clockwise, giving additional control over the character and feel of the saturation. The lower the Sag, the browner the sound. Full voltage is applied when the control is set fully clockwise. It is at this setting that the pedal has the potential to be its cleanest and loudest.

DRIVE

Sets the interstage gain of the amplifiers. More gain means more distortion. The wide operating range allows you to go from an almost clean gain to a tasty rich overdrive.

TONE

A 3-position switch allows to select between different flavours of high cut. In the middle, there is no cut, like the classic Barbershop of days passed. To the right, a subtle high cut to tame ever so slightly the feeling of brightness accompanied with the Barbershop. To the left, a more extreme cut for those times when you want to delve into your dark side.

VOLUME

Controls the output volume of the pedal while keeping the effect unchanged. This is where you have plenty of room to boost.

WATCH THE VOLUME
It’s best to start with the Volume control at a minimal setting to
avoid damage to your ears and equipment.

FIND THE SWEET SPOT
There are combinations of settings that will put your setup right on the edge of breaking up, allowing you to go from clean to saturated with only variations in playing dynamics.

Fairfield Barbershop Overdrive

A gem of an overdrive. Transparent and rather low gain, which is not everyone’s cup of tea, but the three pots (vol, sag, gain) each give a different flavour of tweedy push as you emphasise them alternatively. Running the sag high and gain high gives a grunt to the drive, while leaving the sag at noon opens up the sound and gives a very touch sensitive and ‘crumbly’ sound. And in a live setting, running the vol high gives a superb boost.

I’m really impressed with Pedal Jungle, the owners clearly know about pedals and there are lots of interesting choices. The communication was great and the postage was fast. (There was a slight delay as the pedal was ordered to buy—but I was happy for that option in the first place.) Highly recommend both shop and pedal. David W

Nicely sensitive to playing dynamics. This pedal is now always on...I have developed a Fairfield Circuitry dependency...I don't mind

Thanks for the review and purchase Andy, much appreciated. It's such a great pedal, in fact what isn't great from Fairfield Circuitry, it's all epic! Thanks again, Paul.
