The Mourning Star Advanced Overdrive is Frost Giant Electronics’ latest release, designed from the ground up to give your amp an extra push into saturation without mods, compromises, or tired circuit rehashes.

At its core, Mourning Star is a custom overdrive featuring an active 3-band Baxandall EQ, offering far more control than a traditional tone knob. This powerful EQ lets you precisely shape how the pedal interacts with different amps, tone stacks, and power tube types - whether you’re pushing a vintage Plexi, tightening a Mesa Dual Rectifier, or stacking it with fuzz and distortion pedals.

A fixed internal boost placed after the volume control adds extra headroom and harmonic richness, ensuring your signal stays bold, articulate, and responsive even at higher gain settings. The result is an overdrive that feels dynamic, amp-like, and incredibly adaptable.

Mourning Star also features a 3-way clipping selector, offering familiar foundations with a completely original circuit design.

The active 3-band Baxandall EQ is where Mourning Star truly sets itself apart. Subtle adjustments add bite and clarity, with extra uniqueness found with the mids maxed as it can deliver HM-2-style aggression, making it especially effective for heavier styles like death metal, doom, sludge, and hardcore. Frost Giant recommends starting with the mids at zero and dialling up to taste.
